Evaluation of Water Quality Index on Cheonggye Stream

Abstract
This study was aimed at developing water quality indices that could be used to measure the level of water quality of various items. In numeration of the indices was based the data about BOD, Total Solids, NH3-N, pH, and Fecal Coliform which were collected by "The Construction Laboratory of Seoul City" at the three different stations: Kwanggyo, Samil Building, and Dondaemun for a period from 1974 to 1979.
The major findings based on the water quality indices are follows.
1. Water was most clean at all three stations during July and August which are rainy months in Seoul while the monthly variation was significant only at the Dongdaemun station.
2. The water quality appeared to be more clean for the latter 3 years compared to the former part.
This seems to replect the effect of-"The Environmental Reservation Law" proclaimed in 1977.
3. Coefficient of water quality between Kwanggyo and Dongdaemun was calculated as r=0.444, which was the highest correaltion, but there was no significant difference between upper and down strcam in Cheonggye Stream.
